These Kentucky Butter Cake Cookies are my new favorite! They are so easy to make and only require a few simple ingredients. The best part is that they taste just like the Kentucky Butter Cake that you know and love but in cookie form!

Ingredients 

Making these cookies are so easy. You only need some basic pantry staple ingredients that are all easy to find at your local grocery store. You can find the full of ingredients that you need to make this recipe down in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Butter – I always use unsalted butter when I’m baking but you can use salted butter if that’s all you have on hand.
  • Brown Sugar – I used light brown sugar for this recipe, but dark brown sugar will work. No need to adjust the measurements.
  • Flour – All-purpose flour is used to make this homemade cookie recipe. It’s important to make sure that you use all-purpose flour and not bread or cake flour.

Equipment 

You don’t need any special equipment to make this simple and easy recipe. Just gather a few simple tools and get ready to enjoy these soft and chewy cookies. You can find the full of tools that you need in the recipe card below.

Cookie sheets – Any type of cookie sheet that you have on hand will work just fine.

Mixer – I used a stand mixer, but a hand mixer and a large mixing bowl will also work.

Parchment paper – Make sure that you use parchment paper. Do not use wax paper in the oven.

How to Make Kentucky Butter Cake Cookies

Making these cookies is so easy! Just follow the steps below or in the recipe card and you will have some delicious homemade cookies in no time at all.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350’ degrees.
  2. Line a baking sheet with a baking mat or parchment paper.
  3. Set to the side.
  4. In a bowl of a stand mixer add the butter and both sugars.
  5. Mix on medium speed until combined.
  6. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the sugar mixture and mix until combined.
  7. In a medium-sized bowl add the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  8. Whisk to combine.
  9. Add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture 1 cup at a time until combined.
  10. Using a cookie scoop, scoop out dough balls and roll them in your hands to make them round.
  11. Place on the cookie sheet and lightly press down by using your hand or the back of a measuring cup.
  12. Bake the cookies in the oven for 10 minutes.
  13. Remove from the oven and set to the side.
  14. Add the glaze to the cookies by using a sauce brush.
  15. Make sure to cover evenly.
  16. Allow the glaze to harden then serve.
  17. In a medium saucepan add the butter, sugar, water, and vanilla.
  18. Cook over low to medium heat.
  19. Stir constantly
  20. Once the mixture is dissolved remove it from the heat

Storage

Store these cookies at room temperature in an airtight container for up to five days. You can also freeze these cookies either baked or unbaked.

To thaw frozen cookie dough place it in the fridge overnight. To thaw baked cookies thaw on the counter at room temperature for two to three hours.

  • Make sure that you cream your butter and sugar well until are well mixed and light and fluffy.
