Microwave Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Oats

These microwave chocolate peanut butter protein oats are a healthy bowlful of dessert for breakfast! Old-fashioned oats, chocolate protein powder, peanut butter, and a scant few more ingredients create a delicious, healthy breakfast that tastes more like dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 to 1 cup milk
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch baking powder
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon dark chocolate chips (optional)

Substitutions and Variations

  • Chocolate Protein Powder: I prefer Quest, but you can use your favorite brand.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: I love the richness of Hershey’s Dark, but any will work. For richer flavor without any added bitterness, you could also use Dutched cocoa powder.
  • Milk: Your favorite milk will work. Add Fairlife for extra protein. Plant-based milk like almond milk works well, too.

How to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Oats

Important Recipe Note: When taking the dish in and out of the microwave, it’s going to be hot. Be very careful and use a dish towel or ovenmits.

1: Combine all the ingredients except the peanut butter in a microwave-safe bowl and mix with a fork.

2: Microwave the oatmeal for a minute. Then, stir and microwave for 30 more seconds. Repeat until you reach your desired texture.

3: Remove the oatmeal, and microwave the peanut butter in another dish for 30 to 40 seconds and stir. It should be slightly pourable. Microwave for another 15 seconds if not.

4: Drizzle the peanut butter over the oats and enjoy!

Storage

This recipe makes one serving of oatmeal. If you do happen to have any leftovers, refrigerate them for up to 2 days.

What to Serve with Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal

Serve this oatmeal topped with nuts and some fresh fruit on the side for a complete, delicious meal.

Tips

  • The bowl will get very hot while making these oats, so always use potholders or a dish towel to remove it.
  • If you use a dish towel to remove your bowl, make sure it isn’t damp. Moisture transfers the heat quickly to your skin.
  • Don’t use quick oats for this recipe. They’ll get too mushy.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats, you can use quick oats too
  • 3/4 scoop chocolate protein powder, I like Quest whey/casein blend
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder, I used Hershey's Dark
  • 3/4 -1 cup milk of choice, I like almond milk or Farilife (for extra protein)
  • pinch salt
  • pinch baking powder
  • 1 - 2 tbsp peanut butter of choice
  • 1 tsp dark chocolate chips, this is optional

Instructions

  1. Important note: The microwave bowl gets very hot. Make sure you use a dish towel or pot holder when taking out of the microwave and placing back in.

    In a small microwave safe dish or mug, place all the ingredients except the peanut butter and combine with a fork. 

    Place in the microwave for 1 minute. Take out and stir. Put back into the microwave for 30 seconds. Take out again, stir and put back in for another 30 seconds or until you reach the texture you like.

     Let sit out for just a minute or two while you place the peanut butter in a small microwave safe dish. Microwave for about 30 to 40 seconds. Take out and stir.

    The peanut butter should be thinner and slightly pourable. If not, put back in for another 15 seconds. Take out and either spoon over the oats or drizzle. Eat up and enjoy!
