Starbucks Copycat Apple Crisp Macchiato Recipe

This recipe for a copycat Starbucks apple crisp macchiato made it’s debut in August 2021 in Starbucks cafés. Originally it was made with 2 % milk. Then in 2022, Starbucks, changed the name and put oatmilk in the title. For my copycat recipe, you can use any milk of choice. Dairy, almond, oat, soy milk all work.

This is so soothing and warming. A real treat in a mug. Now, you can make one right at home with my easy and simple recipe. Make one for yourself, sit down and enjoy every warm apple sip.

What Is A Macchiato

A macchiato is sometimes called espresso macchiato. It’s an espresso or coffee drink with a small amount of milk, usually foamed.

In Italian, macchiato means “stained” or “spotted”, that’s where the name macchiato comes from “stained coffee” or “marked.

What’s In An Apple Crisp Macchiato

This hot Apple Crisp Macchiato tastes like warm apple pie in a mug with your coffee or espresso mixed right in. With warm spices and brown sugar too.

This apple crisp Macchiato is versatile too. Like I mentioned above, any milk will work in this recipe. Now, I happen to make mine with almond milk, but go ahead and make yours with dairy milk if you choose. I also made one with oat milk. Again, from above, Starbucks recently changed the name of this hot beverage to Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato.

Making Steamed Milk Is As Simple As 123

Don’t get discouraged when you see that the milk is steamed or frothed in the recipe below. Here’s how to froth milk in the microwave in three easy steps:

In less than one minute your milk of choice will be frothed and you can make your apple crisp macchiato. You can use espresso(the original way in Starbucks) or coffee, even decaf works in this macchiato. I use the decaf coffee when I make this in the evening.  I hope you try my easy and simple copycat recipe that seriously tastes just like the original for Starbuck. It’s so good!

  • 1 cup milk of choice
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 green apple, you can also use any red apple of choice
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons light brown sugar, for sugar free, use your favorite no calorie brown sugar sweetener

How To Make An Apple Crisp Macchiato

These directions are easy and after you make this the first time, you’ll probably remember how it’s made and not even need to look at the recipe again. If you think it’s not worth using a fresh apple, it is so worth it. The fresh apple cooked down with cinnamon and brown sugar is seriously amazing and tastes so delicious mixed with the hot coffee.

Before starting, brew your coffee and have it hot and ready to go.

  1. Cut the apple into small cubes. Place in a saucepan with water, sugar and cinnamon. Bring to a boil on low to medium heat. Let boil about 5 minutes or until apples are softened.
  2. Once cooked, add in the vanilla extract and mix to combine. Place the apple mixture into a fine strainer or sieve over a large bowl. With a large spoon or fork. Press firmly and move the spoon around to get to all the apples mashed into the sieve. The apple mixture will turn to a thick syrup and pour into the bowl below. While you are doing this take in the aroma of the fresh apple. It’s wonderful. (Save leftover to use for your next apple crisp macchiato or spread on some toast)
  3. Pour coffee into a mug, add whatever amount of sauce into the mug. This depends how much of an apple flavor you want. Stir to combine.
  4. Add about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the milk of choice. You don’t have to stir. You can or leave it layered. Now, take the remaining milk and froth it. You can use my easy three step microwave method or use a milk frother.
  5. Pour the frothed milk on top and sprinkle with a little cinnamon. That’s it! Enjoy this warm, soothing, and delicious apple crisp macchiato.
