Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup coffee or espresso, decaf works too!
  • 1 cup milk of choice
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 green or red apple of choice
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons  light brown sugar, for sugar free, use your favorite no calorie brown sugar sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, the only vanilla extract I use
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Before starting, brew your coffee and have it hot and ready to go.

    1. Cut the apple into small cubes. Place in a saucepan with water, sugar and cinnamon. Bring to a boil on low to medium heat. Let boil about 5 minutes or until apples are softened. Once cooked, add in the vanilla extract and mix to combine.

    2. Place the apple mixture into a fine strainer or sieve over a large bowl. With a large spoon or fork. Press firmly and move the spoon around to get to all the apples mashed into the sieve. The apple mixture will turn to a thick syrup and pour into the bowl below. While you are doing this take in the aroma of the fresh apple. It’s wonderful. (Save leftover to use for your next apple crisp macchiato or spread on some toast)

    3. Pour coffee into a mug, add whatever amount of sauce into the mug. This depends how much of an apple flavor you want. Stir to combine.

    4. Add about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the milk of choice. You don’t have to stir. You can or leave it layered. Now, take the remaining milk and froth it. You can use my easy three step microwave method or use a milk frother. Pour the frothed milk on top and sprinkle with a little cinnamon. That’s it! Enjoy this warm, soothing, and delicious apple crisp macchiato.
