Shortcut Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

Here’s a delicious recipe for Shortcut Texas Toast Sloppy Joes. A kids favorite and hubby’s too. Only 4 ingredients to deliciousness.

This past summer I had heard about a recipe for Texas Toast Sloppy Joes on Pinterest and Tik Tok.

To be honest I hadn’t even heard of the recipe before.

Of course I knew what Sloppy Joes were and Texas Toast for that matter. But, the combo with cheese, it sounded good but, it was summer and wasn’t thinking about anything cooked or baked that day so, I just forgot about it.

This past week or so, I was thinking of some new fall recipes that my son would like and remembered the recipe and decided to make it.

It was so easy to remember since it’s only 4 ingredients. Some of the recipes were made with shredded cheddar cheese and some with shredded mozzarella cheese. This time around I used mozzarella but, I’m sure the cheddar will be great too.

So, I ran out to the market, bought a frozen pack of Texas Toast, some ground beef and ground turkey in case my hubby didn’t want the ground beef along with mozzarella cheese and Sloppy Joe sauce.

I could have made my own sauce but why would I?  The original recipe was made with canned sauce and that’s what makes this recipe so quick and easy to prepare.

Especially on a busy and hectic weeknight when we are all running around in different places.

I grabbed the brand of sauce that I’ve used in the past to make my  Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Casserole Recipe along with the other items and was off to make this for dinner.

The three of us really liked the way this Shortcut Texas Toast Sloppy Joes recipe came out. It was really delicious.

I used the ground beef this time. I saved the ground turkey to make a meatloaf another day. But, it defiantly would be great with any ground meat. I think it would even be good with the veggie crumbles like Boca crumbles or Morning Star. It’s the sauce, cheese and toast that makes this recipe so good in my opinion.

I served it with carrots and peas so there was a vegetable with the meal and whatever leftover meat sauce, hubby and son took on their plate. You don’t have to use all the toast slices and whatever leftover meat sauce can be frozen for another time.

Since hubby and son were happy, I’m now sharing it right here on my blog and calling it Shortcut Texas Toast Sloppy Joes. For obvious reasons. It’s so easy to make! Give it a try soon, hope you and your family enjoys this recipe too.

Recipe note…In the photos, the Sloppy Joe sauce and cheese looks like it’s on the light side. These photos were taken when I served this batch as a snack for my son and his friends. For dinner I pile the meat sauce and cheese on much thicker for a meal portion. That’s when I serve with a veggie or side salad. Snack time is just that. Each boy got two slices of Texas Toast with a lighter serving of Sloppy Joe meat sauce and grated cheese.

Shortcut Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

Yields: 6 to 8 Slices

Here are the four ingredients to make Shortcut Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

  • 1 pound ground beef, or use any ground meat or vegetarian crumble of choice
  • 15 ounce can Sloppy Joe Sauce of choice
  • 1 cup or more shredded mozzarella cheese or cheese of choice, cheddar works well too
  • 1 frozen box, 8 slices Texas Toast of choice – use 6 to 8 slices depending how many you are making this for, 2 slices per person

  1. Pre-heat oven 425 degrees. Have a rectangle baking dish ready.
  2. Bake Texas Toast for about 4-8 minutes or until toasted.
  3. While baking, brown the ground meat. Drain off any liquid or fat. Now, add the can of Sloppy Joe Sauce to the ground meat. Stir to combine and cook for another minute or two to heat the sauce.
  4. When the Texas Toast is done, remove from the oven. Turn the oven down to 350 degrees. Leave the toast in the same baking pan.
  5. After the Sloppy Joe meat sauce has heated, top the Texas Toast with the Sloppy Joe meat sauce. You can make it as thin or thick as you like on the toast. Just don’t spread too far to the corners so the meat sauce doesn’t run off the toast.
  6. Sprinkle each piece with shredded cheese of choice. I like to buy the cheeses finely shredded or shred the cheeses myself also finely shredded. You can shred yours thicker if you prefer. Again, keep the cheese away from the edges of the toast.
  7.  Place baking pan back in the oven for 2 minutes or until cheese has melted. Try not to burn the cheese. 2 minutes is all you need in the oven. That’s it, eat up!

Enjoy the deliciousness!
