Copycat 3 Musketeers Bars

With only 3 simple ingredients, you will be able to make the most amazing Copycat 3 Musketeers Bars! They taste so much like the original you won’t even believe it.

Today was the day I was going to try and figure out how to make my favorite candy bar of all times.

I have loved 3 Musketeers Bars since I was a little girl. When I reached high school, at the end of the school day, a few friends and I would walk into our little town (On Long Island) instead of taking the bus home and head on over to the local candy store. Yup, we had one of those little card and candy stores. Every kind of greeting card and every kind of candy that you can imagine. We are talking many years ago. Even with all the choices, I still went for my favorite the 3 Musketeers Bars.

After we all got the candy, we headed over to one of the parks and ate our candy and chatted away. Good memories.

Since it is my favorite candy bar, I looked into the history of the ever popular 3 Musketeers Bar.

I had no idea that this delectable candy bar had been around since 1932. Made both in the United States and Canada by the Mars Incorporated. This is the company that makes M&Ms too. The 3 Musketeers Bars were their third candy that they manufactured.

Originally it was packaged as 3 mini candy bars. The flavors were, chocolate, vanilla, and, strawberry. Later on in years, they just made one larger candy bar with the chocolate flavor which was the favorite out of the three.

So many years later, there have been all different sizes and flavors that were introduced. But, the original chocolate covered fluffy chocolate nougat is still the most popular to date.

One more fun fact, if you were wondering where they got the name 3 Musketeers Bars from, it came from a 1844 novel “The Three Musketeers” by the author Alexandre Dumas.

So, I hope you found all the facts interesting. I did and wanted to share with all of you.

On to this delicious homemade version, one reason I thought about making these at home was the way candy bar prices have gone up in the past few years, it was now time for me to try and mimic my favorite candy bar.

This took me four tries to get the right consistency and taste to make me want to now make these at home instead of buying them.

Don’t get me wrong, if we are on vacation or out and about and I’m craving chocolate and I find my favorite candy bar I will purchase it. But, now it’s so easily made at home and seriously tastes so much like the original, I really enjoy making them for the family.

You are going to love how easy-peasy this recipe is. Only 3 simple ingredients that you might already have at home.

Just a recipe note… The original 3 Musketeers Bars are made with a milk chocolate coating.  That is how I made these. For those of you that are dark chocolate fans, go ahead and use your favorite dark chocolate chips. Just make sure they are a good quality for best taste.

Now, all you have to do is scroll down and grab the 3 ingredients, follow the simple directions and you too will have the most delectable 3 Musketeers Bars ready to devour.

Copycat 3 Musketeers Bars

Yields: 6 large bars or 12 smaller bars

WHAT ARE THE THREE INGREDIENTS IN MAKING A COPYCAT 3 MUSKETEERS BARS?

Here they are…

  • 3 to 4 cups milk chocolate chips, divided, I used Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips, for dark chocolate use a good quality semisweet works best
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip, thawed
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil, I used canola oil

The best copycat recipe!

Directions:

  1. Line a loaf pan with parchment or wax paper. Make sure there is a long overlap, as seen in the photo below.
  2. In a medium microwave safe bowl, melt 2 cups chips at 25 second intervals. Stir after each time. Or, use a double boiler.  When melted Pour into a medium mixing bowl.
  3. Using an electric mixer, beat on high for about 45 seconds. Then, add in the whole 8 ounces Cool Whip. Beat on medium to high for about 60 seconds. The mixture should be lighter and fluffy. Just like the middle of a 3 Musketeers Bar!
  4. Now, spread mixture into the prepared loaf pan. If the mixture is too stiff, using clean damp hands will help press into pan. Freeze for about 30 minutes.
  5. Remove from freezer. Lift out of pan with the overlap of parchment paper and turn over onto a cutting board. Cut into 6 candy bar size pieces or 12 fun size.  Spread apart a little and put back into freezer for another 20 minutes or so.
  6. While the bars are in the freezer, melt remaining chips (for a thin coating, use 1 cup, for a thick coating use 2 cups) with 1 tablespoon oil. When melted stir until the chocolate becomes shiny.
  7. Dip each bar into melted chocolate and place on parchment or wax paper to set up. When all 6 are dipped. Place in fridge to harden. That’s it, now, go take your first bite of your homemade 3 Musketeers Bars. (keep bars in sealed container in fridge up to a week)

Enjoy the chocolate deliciousness!
