How to Make Air Fryer Baked Apples
I’m giving you a brief overview of this easy recipe here, but you can find the exact instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Set up a dredging station with a shallow bowl of flour, a shallow bowl of whisked egg mixture, and a shallow bowl of graham cracker crumbs and sugar.
- Core and slice the apples into wedges. Then, dip them into the flour, the eggs, and the cookie crumbs.
- Place the wedges in a preheated air fryer basket sprayed with a little nonstick spray and cook at 400°F until tender.
- Top with caramel sauce while warm and enjoy!
Tips
- Toss your apple wedges with a little lemon juice to prevent browning while you work with them.
- I prefer Honey Crisp, Granny Smith, or Gala because they hold their texture so well. However, you can use any apples. Just be aware that some may be softer than others.
- Always preheat your air fryer for even cooking and exact temperatures.
- Place your apples in an even layer in your air fryer basket for the best cooking and texture.
Air Fryer Baked Apples FAQ
Yes, you can. In fact, an air fryer is basically a small convection oven. If it can be baked in an oven and is small enough to fit in an air fryer, it can be air fried.
The best apples for this kind of dish include Honey Crisp, Fuji, Pink Lady, Jonagold, Golden Delicious, Rome, Granny Smith, Braeburn, Northern Spy, and Cortland. They all have varying levels of sweetness and tartness, but they all hold their shape very well while baking.
There are usually two main reasons that baked apples or apple slices are mushy. Either the apple was a soft variety to begin with, or the apples were overbaked. If you prefer firm apples, ensure you use an apple that holds up to baking well. Whatever type you choose, never overbake them.
