Slow Cooker Apple Cider

This is a simple way to make homemade slow cooker apple cider using your slow cooker. Your house will smell divine and you get to enjoy a hot cup of this apple goodness.

Each year around this time, I used to buy apple cider for my family at my local grocery store since they always enjoyed it so much.

This year I decided to make my own homemade apple cider.

I looked up many different recipes and then decided to wing it and make up my own.

Then, the decision to make it on the stove or in the slow cooker. Defiantly the slow cooker. In the slow cooker, you are free to go about your business and not be checking the stove the whole time the apple cider is cooking away.

I had errands to do and couldn’t stay home to watch a pot on the stove that day anyway. So the decision was made.

This was so easy and simple to prepare. I just tossed all the ingredients, (except one, you save that one for later on) in my handy dandy slow cooker and walked out the door.

A few hours later when I returned home, I got out of the car on my driveway and before I even opened up the front door, there was the most wonderful aroma of apples and cinnamon in the air as I walked towards the door. The closer I walked it got stronger. As I opened up the door to the house, Oh wow, it smelled divine!

I’m seriously telling you the house smelled so wonderful, like cinnamon and apples to the max.

When the family came home later that day, the cider had finished cooking but the scent still filled the entire house.

Store bought is fine but, after drinking homemade cider, there is no comparing. Homemade wins by far.

We enjoyed it hot but, you can store in the fridge for days and enjoy cold.

Just a recipe note, whatever leftover you have, bake up a batch of muffins, donuts, apple pie bars, or cupcakes with this amazing cider. (click the highlighted links for these yummy recipes.

How is homemade slow cooker apple cider made

Directions:

  1.  Add all ingredients except brown sugar into the slow cooker. Set on high. Cook for about 3 hours.
  2. After the 3 hours, mash apples and orange with a potato masher. Add the light brown sugar. Stir gently. Cover again, lower heat to low and cook another 1 1/2 to 3  hours. Check after each hour if possible.
  3. When finished, strain liquid over a mesh strainer that is over a large pot or mixing bowl. Press down with a spoon to get all the juices from fruit. Discard the solid pieces. Pour into mugs or store in a sealed container in fridge up to 5 days. You can also freeze up to a month.
