How to Make Candied Grapes
I’ve included a brief overview of the recipe here, but you can find the exact instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Remove the grapes’ stems and rinse them in cold water. Then, pour them into a large bowl filled with water and lemon or lime juice.
- Toss the grapes and water gently. Then, strain again. Add your chosen gelatin flavors to individual shallow bowls.
- Press a toothpick into the end of the grapes where the stems were and dip them in your choice of geltain colors, placing them on a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Place the baking sheet in the freezer until the grapes are frozen. Enjoy!
Tips
- Choose firm grapes, with as many grapes as possible, free of marring and marks.
- Give your strainer a good shake to remove excess water, but still leave the grapes nice and wet. This allows the gelatin to stick to them.
- Place your toothpick where the stem of the grape was. This ensures the grape won’t burst as you add the toothpick.
- Give your grapes at least 2 hours to freeze, then check them. They should be fully frozen when served.
How to Make Candied Grapes FAQ
Any firm, seedless grape will work well for candied grapes. For a balanced flavor, use sweet and tart grapes like Thompson or Autumn Crisp. For a sweeter flavor, choose varieties like Cotton Candy or Moon Drop grapes.
Candied grapes come in two general forms – candy-coated or sugared. Candy-coated grapes are truly candied grapes, while the sugared method involves sweet, flavored gelatin.
Candied grapes will last for up to a month in the freezer.
