Simple Patriotic Star Brownies

For a fun food craft to make with the kiddos, give this recipe a try. Great for so many holidays and occasions. They taste yummy too. Enjoy!

My son and I love making these star brownies for all the different patriotic holidays, even game day and new years. Made simply with a cake mix and some red, white, and blue candy melts, you have a fun and festive dessert to serve for the holidays. We used a 3 inch star cookie cutter but, you can make these any size or shape for that matter. Go crazy and have fun!

Simple Patriotic Star Brownies

Yields: about 10 star brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of brownie mix, any brand, plus brownie mix ingredients
  • 12 ounces Wilton Bright White candy melts, found at craft stores like Michael’s or online
  • 12 ounces Wilton Red candy melts
  • 12 ounces Wilton Royal Blue candy melts

Supplies:

  • 3″-3.5″ star shaped cookie cutter (This is the set I purchased, has 3 sizes and worked great)
  • aluminium foil
  • wax or parchment paper
  • 3 Ziploc sandwich bags
  • kitchen scissors
  • cookie spray

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, line a 9 x 13 baking pan with foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. Prepare and bake the brownies according to package directions.
  3. Remove brownies from oven when finished and let cool completely on a wire rack. This is important to let cool completely.
  4. Line a large baking sheet/ cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper.
  5. Once the brownies are cooled, use the star shaped cookie cutter to carefully cut out the brownies and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. When all the brownies are cut out, place about 1/4 cup of EACH color of candy melts into separate bags.
  7. Close each bag with the corner slightly open and microwave one at a time for 30 seconds, gently knead the candy into the bag and then heat again for another 15-20 seconds until the candy is melted and smooth.
  8. Snip the corner of the bag using the kitchen scissors and gently squeeze the chocolate from the baggie over the top of the brownies.
  9. Allow the chocolate to set and then repeat with the other two candy melt colors. That was fun!

Look how cute these came out!
