This simple crumb cake recipe comes from my dearest friend Regina. It’s the most decadent cake yet so simple to make.
Regina is an amazing baker and cook. She has been kind enough to share so may of her delectable
recipes with me over the years so I can share them with all of you.

What Makes This Best Crumb Cake Recipe The “Best”?
As Regina says, “This cake is anything but shy on crumbs” That alone is what makes this crumb cake the best of the best!
She certainty went all out with the crumb topping which we all know is the best part of a crumb cake.
The second best part about this cake being so delicious is the recipe is so simple to make.
That’s why it’s called Best Crumb Cake Recipe. There’s a special shortcut part of this crumb cake that you will love that makes the recipe so easy-peasy.
But, to be honest, making a crumb topping, especially a piled high one like Regina’s is so much fun to make. Don’t you think so too?
If I’m going to get my hands into any kind of food, cinnamon crumb topping would have to be at the top of my list.
I have served this crumb cake so many times over the years since Regina shared this recipe with me. My family and friends have adored it and have literally begged me to make it for them when we get together.
One time I had a neighbor that was getting over hip surgery. I brought this over while she was recuperating at home and she was in tears when I handed her the crumb cake.
She told me she had remembered when she had come over one day when we first moved in and I had just taken a crumb cake out of the oven and after sitting and chatting for a while I offered her a couple of pieced to take home.
She said her husband loved the crumb cake so much he was grabbing at her piece. I kind of don’t blame him. LOL!
All these years later she meant to ask me for the recipe but had forgotten to.
I had told her once she is healed up I would give her the recipe but, in the meantime to just enjoy the baked crumb cake I had given her that day.
A year or so later, she dropped me a note in my mailbox and asked me for the recipe. At that point I forgot I offered her the recipe. She hadn’t.
I happily dropped off the recipe the next day and since then, she’s been making this crumb cake for her family and friends and of course they love it just as much as she did the first time I served it to her years ago.

This would surely be put in the category of a coffee cake. This simple crumb cake recipe is a breakfast/brunch type of cake which makes it a coffee cake. But, since it has the biggest crumb topping, I left out the coffee cake in the title and left it as a crumb cake. If you look up coffee cake on Google, I bet most of them will come up as a crumb top coffee cake just like this one. However, I bet you won’t find one with a crumb topping like this one!

Believe it or not, there are simple everyday ingredients in this so simple crumb cake.
What Makes This A Shortcut Recipe In This So Simple Crumb Cake?
When you see the first ingredient, you’ll know why it’s a shortcut recipe. A cake mix works as the base of this so simple crumb cake. The rest are simple, everyday pantry items and just a couple of ingredients from the fridge to make the most incredible and towering crumb topping.
Here Are The Ingredients:
- Butter Yellow Cake, or any yellow cake mix (plus recommended ingredients on the box)
- all purpose flour
- granulated sugar
- ground cinnamon
- ground nutmeg
- vanilla extract
- unsalted butter, softened

How Do You Prepare This So Simple, Best Crumb Cake Recipe?

Here Are The Simple And Easy Directions To Make This Amazing Crumb Cake Recipe:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and butter a 15″ x 10″ or similar size baking dish like a 9 x 13 size pan. The crumb topping will be even higher and serving will be closer to 18.
- Prepare the cake mix as directed on box and bake for only 20 minutes in baking dish.
- Mix remaining ingredients in a large bowl with a pastry bender or clean hands.
- Sprinkle crumbs onto hot cake, then return to oven for 10 to 15 minutes more. Be sure to test for doneness. Use a long wooden skewer or toothpick. Should come out with slightly moist to dry crumbs or no crumbs.
- Let cool on wire rack until cooled.
- When cooled, sprinkle with confectioners sugar. Just a recipe note.Regina cut her pieces in squares. You can cut them is triangles like I did in some of the photos. The square photo is Regina’s original photo.

- 1 box yellow butter or yellow cake mix
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/3 cups granulated sugar
- 5 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1-2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 sticks(1 pound) unsalted butter, softened
- powdered sugar for sprinkling on top
Instructions
