Sugar Plum Donuts 

Here is a beautiful looking donut that’s been inspired from the classic ballet and movie “The Nutcracker” These sugar plum donuts are sweet and so simple to make. Enjoy every delicious bite!

 

The Nutcracker is all about dreams, fantasy and magic.

So many exciting journeys seen through a young girls eyes.

Clara travels through the land of sweets, where there are wonderful goodies you want to reach out and grab right from your seat.

Enjoy the dancing snowflakes and nutcrackers in this epic tale and while you’re watching the movie enjoy these amazing donuts.

The Sugar Plum Fairy would approve how delectable these donuts are. Bake a batch and taste the magic!

Sugar Plum Donuts 

Yields: 12 donuts

 

What you’ll need to make a batch of sugar plum donuts…

Ingredients:

2 2/3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup melted unsalted butter, cooled slightly
1/2 cup sour cream
2 large egg (room temp)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
pink and purple gel food coloring

Vanilla glaze ingredients:

1/4 C milk
2 C powder sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
pink, purple and white sprinkles

Here’s how to make sugar plum donuts…

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Use a baking spray to prep your doughnut pan.
    Set the pan to the side.
  3. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and sugar in a large bowl.
  4. Whisk together the whole milk, sour cream , and eggs into a separate bowl.
  5. Whisk in the melted butter, vegetable oil, and vanilla
  6. Gradually whisk in the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined
  7. Divide the batter into two bowls.
  8. Add several drops of pink food coloring in the first bowl.
  9. Add several drops of purple food coloring in the first bowl.
  10. Spoon equal amounts of the 2 batters into the doughnut pan.
  11. Bake for about 9 minutes.
  12. Allow doughnuts to cool a few minutes in the pan.
  13. Transfer the donuts to a wire rack to completely cool.

Glaze Directions:

  1. Whisk together the milk, powder sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Dip the doughnuts into the icing and turn the doughnut 90 degrees
  3. Place the doughnut back onto the wire rack and repeat the previous steps for remaining doughnuts
  4. Sprinkle the sprinkles onto the donuts
  5. Let dry for an hour before enjoying! Enjoy!
