- To ensure your burger is cooked perfectly, use a meat thermometer. When it registers 165 degrees, your burger is done!
- Want to keep your burger from shrinking too much? Here’s a great recipe hack, add a divot in the center of the burger with the palm of your hand after it’s been shaped.
- Place the cheese on the burger just before it’s finished cooking. This allows the cheese to melt just enough.
FAQ
How do you know when hamburgers are done?
The only real way to know your hamburgers are done is to measure their temp with a meat thermometer. At 165 degrees, your burgers are perfectly cooked.
How do you keep hamburgers from sticking to the grill?
Be sure your grill grates are clean and oil them with an oil that has a high smoking point.
How do you keep hamburgers from sticking to the pan?
Use some cooking spray or a bit of oil or butter to coat the bottom of the pan. Only use enough to make a barrier between the meat and the pan’s surface.
How do you keep hamburgers from falling apart?
Usually, the binding ingredients will do that for you, but chilling the meat is also a big help.
I hope you love this easy and oh so delicious homemade hamburger recipe as much as my family and friends do.
Homemade Hamburger Recipe
This homemade hamburger recipe features a deliciously seasoned, perfectly cooked burger topped with onions, tomatoes, and lettuce. It’s a classic burger with a tasty twist that everyone is going to love. Grill it in the summer or make it in the skillet during the winter. You can enjoy it all year round!
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs, I used plain
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt, I like sea or kosher salt
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika, regular or smoked is really delish in this recipe
- 1 tbsp milk or water
Aioli Sauce
- 1 cup mayo, regular or light both work, not fat free
- 4 to 6 cloves of garlic, minced
- 3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 tsp salt, I like sea or kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
Instructions
-
Start by making the garlic aioli: In a small bowl, combine the ingredients until it is a smooth consistency. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes for the flavors to come out.
Heat a skillet on medium heat and then begin preparing the meat. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, seasonings, and milk. You can wear gloves and use your hands to mix or a spoon.
Once combined, press it together and make a large ball. Then slice into 4 quarters and shape each one into a 4-5” diameter patty (or slightly larger than the buns, as they will shrink a bit).
Place patties on the skillet and cook for 5 minutes on each side. (I didn’t want to overcrowd my pan so I cooked two at a time.)
As the patties cook, wash and prep your vegetables. Slice the tomato and onions.
Check the patties and flip it if it has been 5 minutes. During the last minute, add the cheese slices on top.
Once everything is cooked, assemble your garlic aioli burgers.
Serve as is or with a side of fries or chips. Enjoy!
