Halloween Brownies

I love making fun treats with my kids around Halloween time. With this recipe, we wanted to combine a little bit of sweet and salty and even more chocolate.  These Halloween Brownies are just that and more! Bake a batch and taste how delicious they turn out.

Servings 6 large brownies

Ingredients

  • 1 box Betty Crocker Supreme Triple Chunk Brownie Mix (plus ingredients needed to make on package: 1 egg, 1⁄4 cup water OR milk, 1⁄3 cup vegetable oil) Note: If you can’t find this actual mix, use any brownie mix but add in some chocolate chunks and or chocolate chips to the batter.

White Chocolate Pretzels

  • 6 to 12 small pretzel twists
  • 1 cup white chocolate melting wafers
  • candy eyeballs

Colored Ganache

  • 1/3 cup each, black, orange, and white chocolate melting wafers
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream

Toppings

  • 1/4 cup each Kit Kat Minis, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups Minis, and Whoppers
  • orange sanding sugar
  • candy eyeballs

Instructions

  1. Making the brownies: Preheat the oven to 325 F and line a baking pan with parchment paper. First spray pan, then line with parchment paper and lightly spray again. This will make removing the brownies from the pan much easier. I use either a 7 x 11  or 9 x 13 baking pan.

In a large mixing bowl, prepare the brownie mix as per box instructions and make sure not to overmix. You can use milk or chocolate milk instead of water to make the brownies more flavorful and if using chocolate milk, extra chocolaty. Pour the brownie batter into the parchment lined baking pan and spread evenly, making sure to fill the corners. Then place in the oven and bake as per box instructions, about 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted 2 inches from the edge comes out almost clean. When finished, let cool on a wire rack completely before frosting and decorating.

For the white chocolate pretzel mummies: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper then set aside. In a microwave safe bowl, heat the white chocolate melting wafers in the microwave on a low or defrost setting for 30 seconds. Give it a stir and place back in the microwave for 15 second intervals, mixing each time, until fully melted and creamy. Using a fork, dip each pretzel into the melted white chocolate until fully coated. Remove it and tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to help remove the excess chocolate. Then place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Repeat until all pretzels are covered in chocolate.6) Pour the remaining chocolate into a piping or Ziplock bag and twist to tighten it. Snip a tiny piece of the tip and begin drizzling the melted chocolate onto the chocolate covered pretzels to make the mummies bandages. Then, take two eyeballs and place them on each pretzel. Repeat until every mummy has eyeballs then place in the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes for the chocolate to set up.

For the ganache: Wait until the brownies have cooled before starting on the ganache. Then, have three small bowls ready with the different melting chocolate wafters. Heat the heavy whipping cream in the microwave or stovetop just until it starts to bubble. Now, pour a little into each bowl of melting wafers. Let it sit for about 1 minute and then stir each one until the wafers are fully melted.  Set aside.8) Once the brownies have cooled, add dollops of the different colored ganache on top and alternate the colors. Then, create swirls or designs to mix it up. Use a wooden skewer or toothpick to swirl.9) Scatter the Kit Kats, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Whoppers on top. Then place the pretzel mummies on top. Add more eyeballs, and orange sanding sugar. Have fun and get creative with your toppings. Enjoy these yummy mummy pretzel brownies!
