  • 2 to 3 tbsp  unsweetened cocoa powder, use natural not Dutch-processed for this recipe
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar, for sugar-free, use your favorite zero-calorie sweetener and only use 1 packet or 1/2 teaspoon
  • 1 cup whole milk, 2 percent and almond milk work too
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp caramel syrup, regular or sugar free
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 tbsp whipped cream, from the can or homemade--both work
  • 1 to 2 tsp caramel syrup for topping
  • tiny pinch sea salt for topping

  1. Mix sugar, sea salt and cocoa in large mug. Heat milk in microwave 60 to 90 seconds or until hot. (I used a microwave-safe glass measuring cup)Take milk out of microwave, add vanilla extract. Stir to combine then add caramel syrup. Stir again.  Gradually add hot milk to cocoa mixture in mug, stirring until well blended. Top with whipped cream and drizzle caramel syrup over top. Sprinkle the smallest pinch of sea salt over the caramel. Enjoy!
