Chocolate Covered Caramels With Sea Salt

These chocolate Covered Caramels With Sea Salt are the perfect little treat When you are in the mood for something sweet with a touch of salt

Have you heard the new craze for chocolates is having them topped with sea salt?

What does that even taste like? It didn’t even sound appealing to me when I first heard about it.

Well, that all changed one day at a friend’s house.

When my friend first offered me this little candy and I politely said “no thank you”.

First of all, I didn’t want the calories and fat and the combo of sweet and salty didn’t interest me.

She told me I would be surprised how great they were so I tried one. She was so right!

Oh my, that little candy was scrumptious. The combo of the sweet and salty was just so different and delicious.

As soon as I got home that night, I grabbed the package of caramels from the pantry and made a batch for my family. Everyone loved them as much as I did.

Today, I was home in the morning catching up on some recipes I needed to post for the upcoming holiday which happens to be Valentines Day, or as my son calls it chocolate day.

That got me thinking about these little gems. It had been awhile since I made any chocolate covered caramels with sea salt.

I decided to change things up so this time around I used bittersweet chocolate for a more intense chocolate flavor. The last few times I used milk and semisweet chocolate.

Both tasted delicious. I happened to like the milk chocolate the most and my son and hubby liked the dark chocolate more. My daughter is like me and she’s a big milk chocolate fan.

As much as I like the sweater chocolate being milk chocolate, the bittersweet tasted fantastic.

Just goes to show, all chocolate is so delicious.

So here they are. A simple easy recipe with only 3 ingredients. So versatile too. Change around the chocolate and sea salt color and make a nice variety so everyone can enjoy.

Here Are The simple Ingredients That Were Used In These Scrumptious Chocolate Caramels?

  • unwrapped caramels, I used Kraft brand
  •  milk chocolate chips, I used Hershey’s brand, semisweet works well too
  •  coarse sea salt,  more or less to taste
  • full printable recipe with amounts found below in recipe card

Here Are The Easy And Simple Directions…

  1. Have a cookie sheet lined with parchment or wax paper, set aside.
  2. On a microwave safe plate, place the caramels in microwave for about 15 to 25 seconds, just to soften up a little. Set aside. (Do not completely melt them, you want them to keep their shape.)
  3. In a small microwave safe dish, melt chocolate for about 30 seconds.
  4. Remove from microwave and stir. Place back in microwave for another 30 seconds, stir again. Do this for another 10 to 15 seconds until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  5. With a wooden skewer or small spoon toss the caramels in the chocolate. You will have enough to coat them. Place the chocolate coated caramels on the baking sheet that you lined with wax paper and let it set. This could take about an hour or so. DO NOT put them in the fridge or freezer because the caramels will get too hard. This is a very important step.
  6. After about 15 minutes sprinkle the salt over each chocolate square. Let them finish setting and enjoy.
  7. Recipe Note: For best results, keep wrapped up on counter and eat within one to two days for best taste freshness.

Enjoy the deliciousness!
