This moist and delicious vanilla cupcake is a basic recipe that comes out just perfect every single time.

Top them off with a creamy and fluffy buttercream frosting and you have a cupcake that everyone will want to sink their teeth into.

Have fun with the kids while making these. Use your imagination with the color of sprinkles and toppings.

Who cares if they get all over your kitchen counters and floors. It’s the time of year we expect it.

The new batch I’ll be making with my kids will be the center of my dessert table this year. Bet they’re are the fist to go!

What Are The Simple Ingredients In These Christmas Tree Cupcakes?

Here are the ingredients for the cupcake batter:

  •  all purpose flour
  •  baking powder
  •  fine sea or kosher salt
  •  unsalted butter, room temperature
  •  granulated sugar
  •  large eggs
  •  vanilla extract
  •  sour cream

Here are the Ingredients for the fluffy green frosting:

  •  cream cheese, room temperature
  •  butter, room temperature
  •  vanilla extract
  •  fine sea or kosher salt
  •  powdered sugar
  •  green gel food coloring
  •  Christmas sprinkles and nonpareils
  •  star sprinkle, found online or in craft stores

How To Make These Beautiful Frosted Christmas Tree Cupcakes? 

Here are the simple and easy directions for the batter and frosting:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees, and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together butter and sugar for 1-2 minutes, until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs, vanilla, and sour cream, mix again until just combined.
  5. Spoon the cupcake batter into the cupcake liners, fill them a little over  ½ way full.
  6. Bake 17-18 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, mix together cream cheese, butter, vanilla, and food coloring.
  8. Slowly add powdered sugar, mixing well to combine.
  9. Mix in additional green food coloring, if needed to reach desired shade of green frosting.
  10. Once the cupcakes are cooled, frost them generously creating your tree shape as you go up.
  11. Top with a star sprinkle and additional red, white, and green nonpareils.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp fine salt

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Frosting

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/8 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2-3 drops green gel food coloring
  • Christmas sprinkles and nonpareils
  • star sprinkle for top of tree

Instructions
