Simple Patriotic Star Brownies

For a fun food craft to make with the kiddos, give this simple patriotic star brownies recipe a try. Great for so many holidays and occasions. They taste yummy too. Enjoy!

My son Josh and I love making these simple patriotic star brownies for all the different patriotic holidays. We also like to make these for certain game days and new years too.

They’re made simply with a cake mix and some red, white, and blue candy melts.

You will have a fun and festive dessert to serve for the holidays. However, these are so yummy, don’t just save them for a holiday. You can swap out the star cookie cutter and just cut into squares. So, this way you can enjoy anytime you want a yummy and easy recipe for brownies.

For this recipe, we used a 3 inch star cookie cutter.

But, you can make these any size or shape for that matter.

The recipe is so easy and basic. Like I said above, you can enjoy this recipe anytime.

I have made these many weeknights since it’s such a simple recipe that takes a short amount of time to prepare.

Go crazy, the skies the limit so, have fun!

Supplies:

  • 3″-3.5″ star shaped cookie cutter (This is the set I purchased, it has 3 sizes and worked great)
  • aluminum foil
  • wax or parchment paper
  • 3 Ziploc sandwich bags
  • kitchen scissors
  • cookie spray

How Are These Patriotic Star Brownies Made?

Here’s the easy directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, line a 9 x 13 baking pan with foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. Prepare and bake the brownies according to package directions.
  3. Remove brownies from oven when finished and let cool completely on a wire rack. This is important to let cool completely.
  4. Line a large baking sheet/ cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper.
  5. Once the brownies are cooled, use the star shaped cookie cutter to carefully cut out the brownies and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. When all the brownies are cut out, place about 1/4 cup of EACH color of candy melts into separate bags.
  7. Close each bag with the corner slightly open and microwave one at a time for 30 seconds, gently knead the candy into the bag and then heat again for another 15-20 seconds until the candy is melted and smooth.
  8. Snip the corner of the bag using the kitchen scissors and gently squeeze the chocolate from the baggie over the top of the brownies.
  9. Allow the chocolate to set and then repeat with the other two candy melt colors. That was fun!

Look how cute these came out!
