Peanut Butter and Jelly Spider Sandwiches

Jump to Recipe

Peanut butter and jelly spider sandwiches are a Halloween-themed take on the classic childhood favorite. Circular peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are decorated with candy eyes and pretzel stick “legs” to make a sweet treat that kids and adults alike will love.

I love making sweet treats of all kinds for Halloween, but my favorites are the ones that take classic flavors and give them a spook-tacular twist. That’s why I love these sandwiches. They take the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich we all know and love and give it a makeover with candy eyes and pretzel legs to make them look like adorable spiders! They make great finger foods at parties or fun sandwiches to give the kids and grandkids for lunch during the Halloween season.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Spider Sandwiches

These simple, delicious sandwiches start with white bread that I cut into circles with a large biscuit cutter. Then, slather on peanut butter and jelly just like the childhood classic. Before I close up the sandwiches, I place pretzel sticks for legs inside and then press down the top piece of bread. Finally, I add two candy eyes and, presto – spider sandwiches that are perfect for any Halloween party or just a fun, Halloween-themed lunch. That’s all there is to it!

How to Make Peanut Butter and Jelly Spider Sandwiches

Making this recipe couldn’t be easier. It’s only a touch more involved than making a traditional peanut butter and jelly sandwich and we all know how easy that is! You’ll be all done in just a few minutes.

  1. Use a medium to large round glass or a large biscuit cutter to cut into each slice of bread.
  2. Spread peanut butter on 4 of the bread slices and jelly on the other 4 slices.
  3. Place 3 pretzel sticks in the peanut butter on either side of the circles to make legs.
  4. Press the bread with the jelly on top of the bread with the peanut butter and pretzel sticks and top with chocolate chips, You can push them in slightly.

Substitutions and Variation

  • Use your favorite bread for this recipe.
  • Use your favorite peanut butter for this recipe.
  • Use your favorite jelly for this recipe.
  • Try Nutella in place of peanut butter. (Nutella makes it more like a dessert and the combo of the sweet and salty pretzels is so good!)
  • Crunchy or smooth peanut butter will work for this recipe.

Equipment

  • Butter knives
  • Medium to large round glass or a large biscuit cutter

Storage

These sandwiches are best when they’re fresh. If you do have to store leftovers, refrigerate them in an air-tight container for up to a day. Any longer, and the bread will be too soggy on the jelly side.

What to Serve with Peanut Butter and Jelly Spider Sandwiches

These are simply a Halloween-themed version of classic peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. As such, they pair well with all your favorite sandwich sides like:

  • Pretzels
  • Potato chips
  • Doritos
  • French fries

Tips

  • Be sure you place your pretzel sticks at least 1/2-inch inside the sandwiches to hold them in place.
  • You can add as much peanut butter and jelly as you like to these sandwiches, but be aware that the more you add, the messier things get!
  • Small pretzel sticks make the best legs. If you can’t find the small ones, use longer ones and just snap each one to the size you want.
