Copycat McDonald’s Shamrock Shake

For a most decadent milk shake that can and should be enjoyed year round, you must check this one out. Everyone loves this version of the popular green shake we see every March. Here’s a Copycat McDonald’s Shamrock Shake. It’s Minty delicious in every sip, enjoy!

When can I get a Shamrock Shake…

Every year towards the end of February, McDonald’s restaurants celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by putting back on their menu the ever popular Shamrock Shake.

After St. Patrick’s Day it’s gone until the next year.

My son Josh and I always and I mean always used to go a few times during the month of March to get one for each of us.

It had been a tradition and had to be sipped away in the car.

It was so delectable!

If you like mint chocolate chip ice cream, you are sure to love a thick and creamy Shamrock Shake.

Why make a copycat  McDonald’s Shamrock Shake…

Now, the reason why I started to make a copycat version is because we both didn’t want to wait a whole year to enjoy one of our favorite minty shakes.

Well, it was time to get to work.

So, after talking to one of the nice cashiers at our local McDonald’s, I asked her if she knew what was in a Shamrock Shake. She was so sweet and told me what she knew to be in one of those luscious, minty thick shakes.

I jotted it down quickly and I was off.

It was time to try and create my own version of my son Josh’s and my favorite minty thick shake.

After a few tries, I had a winner…

When my version was ready to be taste tested, my son told me it tasted “fantastic” and he thought it tasted just like the Shamrock Shake we have at McDonald’s.

That’s exactly what I was hoping for him to say.

This delicious shake does not have to be made just around St. Patrick’s Day. We make it year round.

Think of how refreshing it will be to sit outside in the warmer weather and sip away on this gem of a shake.

Here is my Copycat McDonald’s Shamrock Shake recipe.

I hope you give it a try. It really tastes pretty close to an original and is totally delicious.

Just a note, last year I shared on my blog my version of the Shamrock Shake the “guilt free” way.

Even though it’s a lower fat and calorie version, it’s totally delightful and really satisfying for a guilt free shake. It also looks very similar to this shake since I made the green color practically the same.

Just by using low fat ice cream or frozen yogurt and low fat milk, it cut the calories and fat quite a bit.

When watching your diet, check it out and you can still enjoy a mint thick shake.

The link is below, just click and it will take you right to the lighter version.

This time around  live it up and enjoy every last sip of this Shamrock Shake, it’s worth it!

Do we still visit McDonald’s to enjoy the original when it comes back out…

We do. My son Josh and I still visit McDonald’s during the time they put out their original Shamrock Shake. Hey, I’m not denying it’s not totally delicious. It is and now we can enjoy it there when it’s back on the menu and enjoy my version anytime throughout the year.
