Apple Tree Cupcakes

These apple tree cupcakes are sweet, delicious, and so much fun! Cupcakes are decorated with rich, green vanilla frosting and topped with chocolate covered Oreos decorated to look like little apple trees. They’re easy to make, super cute, and a sweet treat that everyone loves.

I love sweets, but what I love even more are sweets that are decorated in a fun way. It’s nice to switch things up, and making cute decorated desserts is one of my favorite ways to do just that. I love these cupcakes, in particular, because they combine cupcakes and chocolate covered Oreos. I mean, talk about two great tastes that taste great together. Wait, that’s a different candy, but you get the point. These cute cupcakes are so easy to make, and I never have leftovers when I serve them. Give them a try!

Apple Tree Cupcakes

These semi-homemade wonders start with unfrosted, store-bought cupcakes. (Cake mix cupcakes work well in this recipe too.) I top them with store-bought vanilla frosting that I either buy in the color green or add food coloring to. Then, I finish the decorated with Double Stuff Oreos that I coat in green candy melt and decorate with red Mini M&Ms to look like apple trees! They’re so much easier than you think, and they make the cutest little fall treats.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • It’s semi-homemade and only takes a handful of ingredients.
  • It combines cupcakes and chocolate covered Oreos.
  • It’s a great fall treat that everyone loves.

Ingredients

It only takes a few ingredients to make these cupcakes, and you’ll find them all easily at your local grocery store. It’s just a quick in and out trip to get it all!

  • 12 Double Stuff Oreo cookies
  • 1 (12 ounce) package green candy melts wafers
  • 12 cupcakes, store bought (I got mine at the bakery department in my local grocery store) or homemade (cake mix cupcakes work well for this recipe)
  • 2 to 3 cups vanilla frosting in vanilla, cream cheese, or whipped, or green (All store bought in the tubs)
  • 12 Tootsie Roll Midges
  • Red mini M&M candies or any small/mini red candy like Red Hots, or Sour Cherry Balls, (5 to 9 for each cupcake)

How to Make Apple Tree Cupcakes

Making these cupcakes is actually a lot easier than you might think. You don’t have to cook anything, and the coated Oreos are incredibly simple. It only takes a few minutes and a few simple steps.

  1. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper.
  2. Gently press a lollipop stick into the cream center of the Oreos, taking care to keep the stick in the center of the filling to prevent cracking.
  3. Melt the candy coating according to the package directions. If the candy coating is too thick, you can add a teaspoon of coconut oil to thin out. (Don’t use water, that will make the chocolate seize up.
  4. Dip the Oreos into the candy melt. Remove and tap gently to remove any excess coating.
  5. Place the cookies on the wax paper and add 4 to 6 Mini M&Ms to the coated cookies with the coating is still wet. Let the cookies set completely.
  6. When the cookies are set, twist a Tootsie Roll around the lollipop under the cookies to create the tree trunk.
  7. Frost the cupcakes with frosting, piping from the center and working outward in a circular motion.
  8. Press a cookie pop into the center of each cupcake and sprinkle the remaining Mini M&Ms or red candies of choice on the frosting. Enjoy!
